Acupuncture

In China, acupuncture has been a way to manage and to fix physical and mental health problems for thousands of years. Because many people benefit from it, it is also increasingly popular in the Western world.

It is an easy and harmless way to treat common pregnancy-related health issues. Acupuncture is a good alternative to medication, since most drugs cannot be used during pregnancy. International studies have scientifically proven that acupuncture is effective.

Pre-birth acupuncture

At 36 weeks pregnant and onwards, you can make use of pre-birth acupuncture. The advantages are:

  • There is a greater probability that you will give birth within 42 weeks
  • The delivery is easier
  • Labor is approximately two hours shorter
  • Dilation is quicker
  • You are able to breathe deeper and more freely
  • It is easier to cope with the contractions
  • Labor is less painful
  • You are less fatigued after birth
  • Breastfeeding is easier
  • Faster recovery after childbirth

You can start pre-birth acupuncture at 36 weeks pregnant. The treatment will take place once a week until the delivery.

Breach birth

At 34 weeks pregnant and onwards, it is possible to turn the baby using acupuncture. The success rate is 50 percent. Sometimes several treatments are needed.

Acupuncture during labor

Acupuncture can also support you during the delivery:

  • When your water broke but you do not have any contractions yet, or when you have irregular contractions;
  • When your contractions are irregular, or when they are too weak to lead to the full dilation of the cervix;
  • When you suffer from fatigue, anxiety, or stress. These emotions can complicate the delivery;
  • When you need pain management;
  • To promote the natural course of labor.

Inducing Labor

It is also possible to induce labor with acupuncture. A treatment will be scheduled at the beginning of your 41st week of pregnancy. Please keep in mind that you might need two treatments. Acupuncture can be a catalyst, but your baby and your body will ultimately decide when they are ready.

Information

The costs of acupuncture are € 25 per treatment. A treatment lasts for about 20-45 minutes. Women who are not registered at our practice can also get acupuncture treatments, provided that they do so in consultation with the practice.
