Mental health during pregnancy and parenthood

Pregnancy and parenthood are special times filled with change. Alongside all the physical developments, a great deal is happening emotionally, relationally and personally. You are not only preparing for the arrival of a baby, but also growing into a new role yourself. This can be beautiful and meaningful, but it can sometimes feel uncertain, overwhelming or challenging.

At our practice, we believe it is important to care for both the physical and mental health of parents and parents-to-be. Secure attachment and a child's healthy development begin with parents who feel supported, seen and heard. That is why we offer psychological support alongside our midwifery care.

You do not have to reach a breaking point before asking for support. By paying attention to what is going on at an early stage, you can experience this special period with greater calm, confidence and resilience. Investing in yourself is also an investment in your baby.

Psychological support

As a psychologist, I support parents and parents-to-be before, during and after pregnancy and through the early years of parenthood. My guidance focuses on strengthening your mental health, encouraging secure attachment and supporting you, your relationships and your family.

My approach is warm, personal and practical. I combine evidence-based knowledge about attachment, emotional regulation and relationships with practical tools that can be applied directly in everyday life. Addressing concerns early can often prevent or reduce symptoms.

Secure attachment is the foundation on which a child learns to trust, regulate emotions and develop in a healthy way. By also paying attention to your well-being and the relationships around you, we can build a strong foundation for the future together.

What can I help you with?

Mental health

  • Stress, tension or uncertainty.
  • Anxious thoughts, worrying or low mood.
  • The transition to parenthood.
  • Changes in identity.
  • Balancing parenthood, work and personal needs.
  • Self-care, setting boundaries and mental resilience.

Relationships and connection

How you feel is often closely connected to the relationships around you. That is why attention is given not only to your relationship with your partner, but also to other important relationships that affect your well-being.

  • Changes in your relationship during pregnancy or after the birth.
  • Communication and connection within your relationship.
  • Differences in expectations, needs and parenting styles.
  • Tension or conflict with parents, parents-in-law, siblings or other relatives.
  • Difficult relationships with friends or other important people in your life.
  • Setting boundaries, recognising patterns and recurring conflicts.

Together, we explore how these relationships affect your well-being and how you can experience more calm, connection and balance.

Attachment and parent-child bonding

  • Preparing consciously for parenthood.
  • Strengthening the bond with your baby during pregnancy and after birth.
  • Understanding your own attachment patterns and how they may affect your parenting.
  • Creating a safe, loving foundation in which your baby can thrive.

Introductory consultation

During the first consultation, we take time to discuss your story, questions and wishes. Together, we look at the type of support that best suits your situation.

An introductory consultation lasts approximately 60 minutes and costs €67.50. For many parents and parents-to-be, this consultation is already a valuable investment. Sometimes one conversation provides enough insight and reassurance; sometimes it forms the basis for further support.

Do you have any questions, or would you like to know whether support could benefit you or both of you? Feel free to discuss it during an appointment at the practice or get in touch.
